The Emmaus Road Initiative

Deepening faith
Bringing it to maturity
Passing it on to the next generation

Inspiring a Wholehearted Faith in a Half-hearted Age

Pope Benedict has challenged us “to reinvest with some concrete and particular meaning theological statements about the uniqueness and the absolute value of Christianity,” but he has also pointed the way by suggesting that a collaboration between theology and anthropology can lead to “the truly most exciting part of Christian faith.”

That collaboration is the subject of the monthly presentations Gil Bailie will be giving at WTU beginning in September. Mr. Bailie, president of the Cornerstone Forum, is a Catholic layman, an author, and lecturer. Mr. Bailie’s presentations will be followed by discussion.

The series will be conducted at St. Monica Church beginning on Sat. Sept. 15 from 10:00am to 12:00 in the Bishop Tschoepe Center.
This will be a once-a-month event through April 2008. It is free, open to the public and intended for the benefit of the laity including religious educators, pastors, parents and anyone committed to spreading the faith and bringing it to maturity. It promises to make our faith more alive and valuable.

Mr. Bailie, a Dr. of Jurisprudence from the Univ.of Tennessee Law School, who is frequently published in valid theological journals, reflects on the following moment in his life: "Standing in St. Peter's Square for Pope John Paul's heart-rending final Easter blessing was a once-in-a lifetime privilege, but it was all the more memorable because of the thousands of young people in the crowd, a vivid testimony to the great hunger the young have for a faith that is counter-cultural, morally challenging, and intellectually coherent. The Emmaus Road Initiative is an effort to provide those whose responsibility it is to feed that hunger with new ways of nourishing the faith of the young and deepening the faith of their elders. What we're doing is not only fresh and original, but is at the same time entirely faithful to Church teaching."

This series will assist us in "Making Christians of Today's Young and Sense of Today's World". The series promises insights into our faith we have not had before in dealing with the integration of theology and anthropology which Benedict XVI has said can lead to "the truly most exciting part of Christian faith".

Learn why Christianity is unique.
Bring faith to a heightened maturity and gain usable insight into today’s culture.
